In my recent featured 45 post on Frank Howard – Judy I mentioned a link to a video, well I’ve found it on youtube so I thought I’d bung it up here.
The backing track sounds really familiar, particularly that horn riff. Racking my brains to remember what it is. Let me know if you recognise it.

Not one of the least known songs on youtube but this is my favourite video of Marvin and Tammi doing this classic.
There is another video of this tune up on youtube but it seems a bit more commercial; slicker production and a bit of a staged feeling. This one looks like it is recorded live and the chemistry between the two of them really comes through.
This one has about a million and a half views so it is hardly unknown but the other is at nearly 9 million so it is probably the one everyone has seen.
Marvin Gaye Sings With ....
This isn’t an uncommon tune, it sold in its millions, but it did have a bit of a revival on the Northern Soul scene a couple of years ago and got to about £25 in price for a US issue – £10 to £15 is about right though.
For the elitists; the copy to have (if you can’t get the UK Green and White demo) is this Aussie EP – Marvin Gaye Sings with Tammi Terrell, Mary Wells and Kim Weston.
Sorry about that blatant chuff about having this EP but I just can’t help myself at times ! 
Rummaging around youtube, like you do, I came across this brilliant bit of footage of Tony Clarke.
Talk about putting your heart and soul into a performance!

It seems that a few people in New York have been reviving the 50′s and 60′s tradition of acapella street corner singing.
The group in this video call themselves “Select Blends” and do a fine version of “Mustang Sally”. It would be great to know who the singers are as they don’t look as if they are just starting out!
The big guy in the green shirt also features in an acapella group called Groundstone. Give ‘em both a google and have a listen.
The gorgeous Voice of Little Anthony to gether with the Imperials. This obviously isn’t one of his run-to-the-dancefloor-and-backdrop tunes and it can’t really be called rare as it reached #10 in the charts but it is sooooo good!
I am a sucker for mid-tempo and ballads to be honest and this is one of a host of similar tunes put out by this group in the 60′s, Many of them on the DCP label and in conjunction with Teddy Randazzo (as this one is.

The best copy to get is of course the picture sleeve which you can see on the right, for no better reason than picture sleeves are cool!
A bonus on this record is the equally beautiful b-side “Reputation” which is a guilty story told in song. You can hear this [here] from my extremely crackly copy – I must get a new one as they are plentiful and (without picture sleeve) only cost about $5.

Taken from from the excellent “Rob’s Big City Soul” channel on youtube, this is a great song but the key thing is the outstanding video.
All these people that just film a record going round and round need to think again.
