Changing Times

I’ve not posted anything on my blog for a while, mainly because I’ve lost a bit of motivation on the record collecting side of things. I haven’t bought a record for ages to be honest!

In fact, in the months before Christmas I decided to sell my collection and stop collecting altogether. What I found was that selling a collection isn’t as easy as you would think – records sell when people want to buy them not necessarily when you want to sell them!

Of course, there are always people who will buy your records if you are happy to accept about half the going rate for them, but if that is the case – I’d rather keep them.

Over the Christmas and New Year period I realised that if they don’t sell straight away that is no hardship – I don’t need the money desperately so I can take my time. So I’ve decided that I’ll list them on my northern soul record sales web site and let them sell when they sell.

However, life is never as easy as you think! I looked at the site and decided it needed some updating to cope with a sudden influx of stock; I needed to display the records in a more user friendly way; I needed a search function; etc. I then realised that I’d have to edit and change all the pages because I put it together ages ago and that is a massive job (well boring anyway!). I also decided that having two websites under the Paul’s Records domain is plain stupid, I don’t give either of them enough attention.

So the upshot of all this is that I’m going to incorporate my record sales into this blog. But first I’m going to change the blog about so that all that is easier to achieve. I reckon that record buying will be on the low side of people’s priorities in January so I’ll do the work over the next few weeks or so.

Anyway that is probably the dullest blog post ever and well worthy of being in the category ramblings!

Changing the look of the blog ….

Just changing the look of the blog a bit (for those who know what I’m on about – I’m changing the WordPress theme) so things will change around a bit this weekend.

It is supposed to be an improvement!

Changed the blog.

After writing nothing on the site for about a year, I thought I’d start blogging again. Something to do with a New Year resolution to love my records again!

So I’ve shifted the blog and put it into a WordPress theme. It’s very much a “work in progress” but at least it gets it going again.

My intention is to change the Paul’s Records website from a site that sells records and has a blog in it to a blog that has a section for selling records.

Over time I’ll move all the site into this wordpress blog but you can get to my record sales at www.paulsrecords.com or by clicking on the “My Record Sales” link in the left sidebar.

I hope to have a new podcast up on the blog tomorrow so please check back.

Cheers
Paul

Moving the website!

10/01/10 – Please Ignore This! This Blog is now part of the main web site

I’m moving the website so if you see this post you’ve come to the wrong site!

The correct site is at:

Paul’s Records

The First Post

Here we are as a blog virgin, first post and somewhat embarrased.

I hope to ramble on at some length about my penchant for collecting, buying selling and playing soul records (rare soul, northern soul – whatever they are labelled). I like most genres of soul music and also stray into 50′s and 60′s R&B as well as Belgian popcorn, I’m getting a liking for ska too!

I’ve spent some of this week playing soul and other music at The National Railway Museum in York (England) for their exhibition “68 and all that” as a guest of YKsoul (http://www.freewebs.com/yksoul). Soul music and steam trains – an uneasy alliance!

Anyway, that’s all for now, hopefully this will become more sophisticated as I explore the possibilities.
