I am a convert to Mixcloud! Why it has taken so long for somebody to come up with this format I don’t know but now I’ve found it I’m hooked.
There seems to have been an explosion of sites recently where you can upload mixes, podcasts, sets, whatever you want to call them. Some of these are free for a small amount of space but Mixcloud gives you loads!
I started off putting up my own mp3 files and just linking to them but this has the twin downsides of taking up costly web space and enabling people to download the mixes from your site. The latter tends to attract lawyers from the music business whilst the first is costly.
I’ve tried podbean but when I checked back my podcasts had disappeared, not good. I tried Soundcloud but the amount of free space is only about enough for 2 decent sets so what’s the point of that? Divshare is pretty good and that is where some of my early podcasts moved to and also where I host the sound files for my records for sale.
But divshare doesn’t seem to have built the community aspect that is Mixcloud’s factor X. People can listen to your mixes, “favourite” them and comment on them, people follow other people and so can see what they listen to and what they post up.
Before you know it, your mixes are being shared by complete strangers out in the internetsphere. Exciting!
Anyway, I’m up on mixcloud here where you can listen to my latest mixes, see what I’ve listened to and who I’m following. Dive in and listen to some music!
